OUR WINES

Organic Sicilian Wines

Sfuso has sourced these wines from a small group of 6 growers who are committed to producing wines and other products such as olives, spices and almonds with a clear ethical stance, one example being the ‘Addio Pizzo’ or anti-mafia labels adorning their products, the other their commitment to organic farming where the forces of nature do the work. It is this kind of practice that Sfuso hopes to support, affording it a direct contact with the producer without having to go through a 3rd party. These kinds of ethics and the rich hills of Camporeale and Monreale were among the reasons why the Sfuso team were guided towards these exciting wines.

Organic Nero d’Avola IGT, 13% Vol, Red Wine
The black grape of Avola is becoming one of the benchmarks of Italian wines. Here, it has been grown organically and turned into an incredible and aromatic wine that really lingers on the pallet leaving traces of the blackberries, mulberries and cherries that grow nearby on the island.

Organic Catarratto IGT, 12% Vol, White Wine
Catarratto is a delicious white grape indigenous to North West Sicily. The vineyards are at 500 metres which gives the wine the benefits of Sicily’s hot days and cool nights allowing the grapes floral and lemony tanginess to develop taking on some spice and mineralism as they grow.

Organic Rosato di Perricone IGT, 12% Vol
Rosé wine The Perricone is to Sicily what the Barbera is to Piemonte. Two red grapes often described as identical twins. If you harvest the grape before it goes deep red you get a pure rosé or ‘rosato’. It looks and smells like roses and other things growing nearby like strawberries and raspberries and those spices again. It’s very hard to find a good pure rosé but Team Sfuso is very proud of what they’ve found here.

TUSCAN WINES

These wines come from Tuscany, arguably Italy’s most popular wine region and yielder of its finest wines. It took Sfuso a while to find a Tuscan wine, partially because of the abundance of it and partially because most producers were unwilling to part with their “sfuso”. Luckily we met Giacomo and Alessandra, 2 young winegrowers unafraid of a little innovation. Their vineyard in Murlo, Chianti is in the process of obtaining an organic certificate. In the meantime Sfuso feels pretty safe in the knowledge that what they’ve come up with so far is pretty special. This is just the beginning of an exciting partnership and all look forward to seeing what other tricks they have up their sleeves.

Rosso Toscano IGT, 14% Vol, Red WineYou don’t get more Tuscan than the Sangiovese, now growing beyond Chianti where this wine is lovingly made. Here it performs a spectacular balancing act with Cabernet Sauvignon. This is a fantastic wine to drink on its own or with a plate of proper al Dente pasta.

Bianco Toscano IGT 14% Vol, White Wine Vermentino is another of those grapes that keeps on performing new tricks and Sfuso has given it a wonderful platform to do this here. A very crisp white wine with a fruity zest and traces of cedar-wood this particular white works wonders with seafood. Or just make an aperitivo out of it.

Rosato Toscano IGT, 12.5% Vol We were a little scared of adding yet another rosato to the Sfuso range but it felt so wrong to leave this one in Murlo, especially after all the alchemy that went into producing it. This time Giacomo has taken a very young Sangiovese and an even younger Merlot and blended them to achieve a pretty incredible box of fruity (but not too fruity) Tuscan magic.
